Cinque Terre is an area of 5 small little villages which are all connected by hiking trails through a national park. It is right on the coast. We only spent one night here, and we didn't get to visit all of the villages, but it was such a neat place. We stayed in Manarola, one of the 5 villages.
This is on the terrace at our hotel, which was perfect. It was the best night sleep I had so far in Italy. Our windows faced the ocean, and we slept with them open so we could listen to the waves crashing in.
The streets of our little village
The morning we were in Cinque Terre, we all got up early. Kyle and I went to Vernazza (another one of the villages, in the picture below).
Adam and Kristen went to Monterosso to hike to Vernazza the same morning. Between these two villages is the longest and most advance hiking trail. Well, typical of our trip at this point, it started raining, POURING... it was quite a storm and Kyle and I were pretty worried about Adam and Kristen. We waited around for a while and then went up to the train station to ride back to our village. While we were waiting for the train, Adam and Kristen walked up... completely soaked. After we went back to the hotel and they got changed and dry, the sun came out and it was a beautiful day!
Cinque Terre is known for their foccacia bread, and we found this pizza place that had the greatest pizza on foccacia bread. YUM! We ate there twice in the 24 hours we spent in Cinque Terre.
This area of Italy also grows lemons! They were so big and looked so delicious. I bought one at a little grocery place, but I still haven't eatten it. They were so pretty though!
