Advent #5

Today our Advent treat was Food for Families. Food for Families has a special place in my heart because I spent a lot of time in high school gathering food and volunteering the day of. And I love that I live close enough to my home that I'm still in a place that has it.

So, today after the girls naps, we loaded up and went to Target. We let the girls out of the cart and they picked out canned goods... corn, beans and fruit, and of course, we got several boxes of mac & cheese. They did so good out of the cart, and walked all the way back to the check out lines right next to us. Once we got to the check out, we put them back in the cart, so they could unload all the food onto the belt. They did a great job.

Once we got our food, we headed to the Brazos Center and drove through the drop off. We rolled the windows down so the girls could see. They got stickers and a sugar cookie... and they got to meet our local newscasters as well!

It was a great experience and something I'll include every year! Kate kept saying "families" because we explained the whole thing as buying food for some families who couldn't get their own. Pretty simplified, but we'll work on more details later. She was really concerned when we started driving off about the food in the back, but we explained that they had gotten it out and put it in the big trucks even though she didn't see it.

Over all, I'll say it was a success!

And then we had dinner with the Hawkins family at Double Dave's. Kate had a side of ranch and 2 pickles. Kyler had black olives and ranch. Go figure. What kids don't like pizza??

And then we let all the girls run wild up and down the sidewalk outside of the stores...
