First Meal

After our 4 month check-up, the dr said it was time to start some rice cereal... so we did. And here is some picture proof:

She was messy... just like she was with her bottle at first. And I'm not sure how much she actually ate. She did NOT have much patience at all. Every time we tried cereal, I think it reminded her that she should eat... and by eat, I mean have her bottle. So not a lot of fun.

I honestly think that EK may have eventually caught on if we kept feeding her. She was a bit resistant, but she really loved that spoon. And she came around a little more each time, but still not fully convinced.

We ended up trying this for several days and then after much consultation with other mom's, I pulled my mom-rank over the dr and decided the girls were just not ready. And I'm not even sure if I am going to try again before 6 months. We'll see how it is going. They are still doing well and growing, and I just don't think they need the cereal yet.

I did have a realization in this process though... I had to realize that I'm the mom and I have ultimate decision-making power. Sounds crazy that I needed to realize that I'm sure. Basically, I love our pediatrician and I trust her. But I know my girls and after trying the cereal, KG and I both just felt defeated. After some conversation, it occurred to me that I didn't have to start the girls on the cereal if I didn't think they were ready... and I, as mom, am able to make that decision. Good lesson for me. :)
