Eventful Doctor's Appointment

I've been dreading this post, but I wanted to record the details.

So, we went in for the girls two month appointment. I, for one, dread going to the pediatrician's office, especially since the last time, we got sent back to the hospital. We went in and everything looked great. Both girls are growing and eating and it was good.

So, we were waiting for the nurse to come back and give shots. Both girls were lying on the exam table and KG and I were standing, one on each side of the table. EK started cooing and babbling... this was the first time we had ever heard her do that!! Both KG and I were leaning over her on the table recording her. It was precious.

There was a knock on the door and the nurse came in. KG and I both looked up. The next thing I know, EK had somehow slide off of the table, right between KG's legs and hit the floor, head first.

She screamed and cried immediately. The nurse ran out and got the doctor. Our doctor came in, calmly examined EK. She said her crying immediately was very important because that meant she never lost consciousness. The dr felt her head and said she thought it was fractured. She told us to go by the drugstore and get some Tylenol, and then go to the hospital for an x-ray. We were to come back to her office around 130, right after lunch. It was about 1130am at this point.

We did just that. We were a mess. It was awful. EK's little head swelled up about an inch bigger than it had been earlier in the appointment. I went back with her for the x-rays. They took 4 different angles and I had to help hold her down. She didn't like that much at all, but she did just fine. Better than her mom, that's for sure. After that we fed the girls and went back to the doctor's office. EK ate good.

The x-rays did not show any fractures. Our doctor gave us the option of spending the night in the hospital for observation, or going back for a CT scan. So, we went back for the scan. I walked in the waiting room and there were about 5 other people, but they called us back first. I went back with her and the strapped her on the bed. I had her paci out because they needed her to be still and she was crying. Once they starting the machine, I was still trying to give her the paci, but she was so calm once the whirling sound started. And it was over before I even knew it started! We went home after that and the dr called us at home after she got the results, which was almost as soon as we got home.

The CT showed fractures on each side of her skull and around her soft spot. But NO BLEEDS. This was huge. We were to continue to give her Tylenol as needed, and we were instructed to wake her up every 3 hours over the next 2 days and feed her.

EK always woke up for us and ate fine. She showed none of the signs that we were told to look for. Her little head did not even bruise.

The next morning we went back to the pediatrician's office, and the pedi was very happy with her progress. EK never acted any different, and she didn't even act like her little head hurt. Such a trooper. She was so strong and brave.

And our pediatrician was amazing. Calm, collected, but caring. The hospital was quick. Which isn't something you normally hear about hospitals. And when you are worried about your little babies, all you want is quick results. We had all of this taken care of and were home by about 3pm. I was grateful.

My mom and dad came down that afternoon and stayed the night with us. I think we needed the emotional support more than anything.

I still get sick to my stomach thinking about it. But my little girl is perfectly fine, and I thank God that I was standing in a doctor's office with a doctor 5 seconds away.

EK, our little trooper

KM, my patient girl

Both of our sweet girls.
